United Airlines Baggage Fee

Travelers choosing United Airlines flights for their trips are allowed to take along 1 carry-on bag along with 1 personal item. The dimensions of the carry-on bag should not be more than 22 x 14 x 9 inches, while the dimensions of the personal item should not exceed 16 x 11 x 8 inches. Please be informed that if a passenger is traveling Basic Economy, then s/he is permitted to bring only 1 personal item (and not a carry-on baggage). However, certain exceptions would be made depending on the status of different membership cards.

The linear dimension of the checked baggage should not be more than 62 inches. For travelers flying in the United Economy Class, the weight of the checked baggage cannot be more than 50 lb. For travelers flying in United Business, United First, and United Polaris Business Class, the weight of the checked baggage cannot be more than 70 lb. Baggage fees may be applicable irrespective of the class of travel you choose.

Carry-on Baggage

• Cabin Baggage Size: 9 in x 14 in x 22 in (23 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm) (inclusive of handles and wheels)
• Personal Item Size: 9 in x 10 in x 17 in (22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm) (example- laptops, backpacks and purses)
• In addition to these items, jacket or coat, umbrella, reading material, duty free items, mobility aids, car seat, stroller, diaper bag, breast pump and camera can also be taken.

Check-in Baggage

• Check-in Baggage Size: 30 in x 20 in x 12 in (76 cm x 52 cm x 30 cm) (inclusive of handles and wheels)
• Check-in Baggage Weight:
a) United and Premium Economy class- 23 kg b) United Business, First, Polaris Business Class- 32 kg
• Maximum Size of Oversize Check-in Bag: 292cm (115 inches)
• Maximum overweight check-in bag: 100 lbs (45 kg) (except Musical Instruments and Assistive devices)
• There are higher check-in baggage allowances for the MileagePlus status members.

Online Check in Policy:

Check-in through online medium or using the mobile app of United can be done from 24 hours before the scheduled departure time of the flight.

• 30 minutes before departure in case of Domestic Flights if there is no check-in bag.
• 45 minutes before departure in case of Domestic Flights if there is check-in baggage.
• 60 minutes before departure in case of International Flights.
• Passenger shall be at the boarding gate 15 minutes or 30 minutes before the scheduled flight time of the airline for domestic or international travel respectively.
